International Women’s Day with David’s Bridal

Highlighting just some of the amazing women at David’s Bridal

International Women’s Day is a day to recognize the amazing women in life who empower us. At David’s Bridal, we’re committed to supporting and empowering women at all stages of life—whether they are our customers or our coworkers. This week we’ve featured women from our Digital, Social Media, Merchandising, and Creative teams, who are just a fraction of the ladies who make David’s Bridal possible. With 96% of our employees and 5 out of 6 of our Board of Directors being female, we are a company of women for women. Today we are highlighting some more of the amazing women behind our brand, who work with our brides at the forefront of everything they do each day.

What is your favorite part about working at David’s Bridal? The people, for sure. The community and camaraderie within not only my department, but the company as a whole is always so inspiring.

Is there a coworker who has helped you reach an important goal? My manager, Jaime has always been a great inspiration and partner. I’ve known her since we worked at the store together. She’s always been there to challenge and support me in my development, and it means so much to be on this professional journey with her.

What makes you feel confident? For me, it can be any number of things. It could be a great pair of earrings, a new personal record for running, or even that my normally unruly curly hair is tame that day!

As a busy working woman, how do you take care of yourself? My favorite ways to practice self-care involve two of my favorite things, running and cooking. I spend Sundays doing both of those things to prepare myself to be centered for the week ahead.

What one piece of advice would you give your younger self? Do not be afraid to make mistakes! It is the only way you will learn and grow both personally and professionally.

What are you seeing in the world, specifically pertaining to women and girls, that gives you hope? It gives me great hope that more women are speaking their truths, whatever that may be. It has been incredibly inspiring to hear their stories, whether they are sharing their own personal struggles or recognizing a gap in politics and stepping up to run for public office. We are all connected by our shared experiences, and by speaking about our own struggles and truths, we continue to be more understanding of the world around us.

What’s your favorite current bridal trend? Definitely sleeves! I’m a sucker for sleeve drama!

What is your favorite part about working at David’s Bridal? What I love most about working at DB is the ability to work cross functionally with so many different teams, influence areas outside of your own, work vertically within different levels of the organization and to be encouraged to work as one team in a collaborative spirit.

Is there a coworker who has helped you reach an important goal? After joining the company, one of my first opportunities was to work on evolving the in store experience through visual merchandising and signing. Jody is the coworker who helped me assimilate not only to DB but within Marketing. She was open to my ideas and suggestions, pointed me in the right direction within the Marketing team and has been an excellent partner on so many projects 2.5 years later.

What makes you feel confident? Feeling confident comes from feeling comfortable with who I am and striving to be my most authentic self. Having a positive outlook and remaining calm in any situation is key to portraying a confident attitude.

As a busy working woman, how do you take care of yourself? I practice yoga multiple times each week which has taught me how to breath and remain calm. I unplug for an hour each day if possible. I try to plan 2-3 trips each year, ideally to another time zone or country so I can disconnect, become inspired and spend quality time with my girls. I try to cover all the basics of eating right, sleeping enough, drinking water etc..knowing that self care should be the #1 priority in order to maintain your physical and mental health.

What one piece of advice would you give your younger self? The advice I would give my younger self and I have also given to my daughters is to not to stress about the things that are out of your control and to not overthink the things that are.

What are you seeing in the world, specifically pertaining to women and girls, that gives you hope? The mid term elections were of great inspiration to me to see the largest, most diverse number of women elected to the House. I am excited to see how they shake things up and move our country forward.

What’s your favorite current bridal trend? Point d’esprit is my current favorite bridal trend. I love the juxtaposition of a geometric pattern against lace and or ruffles. It is a fresh take on the wedding gown with a contemporary twist. I am very excited to see more of this idea emerge in our Fall 2019 Collection.

What is your favorite part about working at David’s Bridal? I love working with such a strong and inspirational group of women on the accessories team, and of course feeling like we are contributing to a little part of all of our bride’s special day!

Is there a coworker who has helped you reach an important goal? My Divisional Manager, Sheila has supported me to reach my most recent career goal of being a Buyer which was a huge milestone for me. She has always empowered and trusted me to run my business while always challenging me to be my best and to think outside of the box.

What makes you feel confident? I feel confident when I have freshly washed hair and an (almost) checked off to do list 🙂

As a busy working woman, how do you take care of yourself? I had my first child a year ago so my work life balance is always a work in progress. My current self care routine is trying to get as much sleep as I can and indulging in the occasion glass of red wine!

What one piece of advice would you give your younger self? I would tell my younger self to not take life so seriously, don’t sweat the small stuff, and always try and have fun in any situation!

What are you seeing in the world, specifically pertaining to women and girls, that gives you hope? I love that the new normal is women being such a presence in the work force and really embracing their careers. I am lucky to work in a very female driven industry so I have the pleasure of seeing many strong female leaders. I am glad to see that this is also the case in more male driven industries as well, with more female executives and CEO’s.

What’s your favorite current bridal trend? Me being a bit bias I absolutely love the statement cathedral veil trend happening now. Seeing bride’s embrace the veil tradition in a fresh way and getting that instagram worthy photograph of a long flowing veil blowing in the breeze gives me the chills! Honestly what other time in your life can you wear a long piece of tulle from your head!
