| Bridal Gown & Beyond: Pulling it all together |
Envision yourself on your wedding day...what adjectives immediately come to mind? Do you want to look chic, sweet, glamorous, captivating, elegant, stylish, or romantic? Finding the right combination of design elements will make it easy to achieve your vision.
While the venue, décor and guest list are important elements to setting the tone of your event, the fashionable details are what will make your wedding day unique and memorable. Let your dream begin with finding the perfect wedding gown.
Start by browsing gowns and dresses online and save your top picks to your Favorites page. Once you've chosen a few styles, create Mood Boards and design your favorite wedding party looks in Dress Your Wedding. This tool makes it easy to email your ideas and get feedback from family and friends. It's is a great way for far away loved ones to share in your shopping experience if they are unable to make it in person. Saving and printing your favorites also helps you compare styles and prepare for your store visit. While browsing, take note of the details or design elements that catch your eye, from silhouettes and necklines to fabrics and embellishments. Check out our Figure Flattery Guide for options that are perfect for your shape and size.
Another great way to plan for your appointment is to be fully prepared with our easy Appointment Checklist. When you visit the store to try on gowns, take your ideas with you, but also remain open to new ideas. Try on a variety of styles, even if you have a very specific vision of your perfect gown. Invite close friends or family to join you, but limit your entourage to two or three people. You may also want to make a solo visit so you can ponder your options without distractions or conflicting opinions.
When shopping for your gown, let your bridal consultant know all the details of your wedding so she can provide appropriate suggestions. David's Bridal consultants are experts at identifying design elements that will complement your body and wedding style. If your consultant suggests something that you don't necessarily love on the hanger, we encourage you to try it on anyway. What do you have to lose? We have heard countless stories from happy brides who fell in love with a gown they never imagined themselves wearing. When you find "the one" that makes you look and feel your best - whether it's the original style you had in mind, or a surprise find - you'll be glad that you tried others for comparison.
Note that your gown size may be different than usual, due to the nature of bridal sizing. Do not concern yourself with the number on the inside of the dress; what really matters is how it makes you look and feel. While many dresses will have to be altered, David's offers special sizes to help obtain a perfect fit for less. Most gowns are available in extra length and our db Woman and Petite Collections provide a perfectly proportioned fit and help cut down on alterations. Keep in mind that it is easier and less expensive to have a dress taken in (and sometimes impossible to let it out); so if you're in doubt or between sizes, go with the larger one.
