Trendy Tuesday! Think you can only wear white to weddings? Well… think again!

Tuesday, March 26th, 2013

Good Afternoon DB Readers…. Happy Trendy Tuesday!  Did you know that white is Wearable… Off the Runway AND the Red Carpet?!

While the winter season has seen its way out, the snowy white color palette is far from melting in the fashion world – just ask starlet stunners Jennifer Lawrence, Charlize Theron, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez and Ashley Tisdale (circa this weekend’s Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards) who’ve turned out classic white, ivory and alabaster colors for a fierce red-carpet look that was neither blatantly bridal nor a post-Labor Day faux pas.

Wearing white to a black-tie occasion has long been considered “taboo” for any woman without a ring.  Yet, these days, the color is getting a lot more play from confident women who like to buck tradition and know that a pure, white moment can best even their most applauded style showing.  Worn in a softer ivory or blush tone and a more elaborate silhouette, the look transcends bridal into a head-turning royal, even majestic aesthetic.  Alternately, used in a cleaner, stark hue, with a more structural shape (as in a peplum or column design) exudes a sexier, sophisticated semblance.

We have a bevy of bridal designs that can double as special occasion attire for a summer soiree or more opulent affair, as well as the DB Studio collection, which offers more “wearable white” for casual cocktail parties and sizzling summer nights. Check out our favorite styles below!

Oleg Cassini Opulence: A Dream Marriage Proposal

by Sarah Pease

To truly translate the beauty of this opulent Oleg Cassini gown into a dream marriage proposal, we’ll step back in time to the days of the maharajas of Ancient India.  We begin with a majestic setting of a maharaja’s palace outside of Delhi, a World Heritage Site, where you’ve arranged a private, guided twilight tour of the palace.  As sunset nears, you encounter your tour guide just outside the gates and learn that you’ll be entering the castle just like the Maharaja and his wife did in the ancient days…on elephant.  The royal beast lumbers uphill towards the palace on a winding stone path and the guide describes the history behind the cobblestone streets and looming marble structure.  You arrive at the front entry to the palace and you’re treated to a royal welcome with a shower of fresh rose petals, ceremonial feet washing and refreshing citrus water.  Your future-fiancée  suspects nothing because she assumes it’s all part of the elaborate private tour.  You continue on your journey and the sun slips below the horizon until finally you reach the masters’ chambers.  It’s a private, quiet space that was reserved only for the use of the Maharaja and his wife.  As your guide pulls aside the thick tapestry covering the doorway and ushers you inside, there’s a sound of twinkling bells.  Your sweetheart enters the chambers to discover it completely filled with candles.  Across one wall of the room is an ancient waterfall flowing with jasmine-scented water, and the bells are actually a duo of musicians playing a traditional ballad.  You discover a small set of jade-encrusted thrones and as you’re seated, you pick up a delicate work of art from the table.  It’s a perfect replica of the mirrored walls that line the room, and on the back is inscribed a promise that says “For as long as these walls have endured, so will my love for you.” As you learned earlier in the tour, the palace is hundreds of years old and since it is a protected historical site, it will be preserved forever…and so will your love.  As you drop to one knee and propose to her, she says yes.  Your perfect proposal evening is complete when you emerge from the suite to find a delicately adorned table for two inside the palace gardens and a sky full of stars to accompany you for dinner.

Katrina’s in a Bridal Party!

by Katrina Mitzeliotis

While it feels like every few months I’m attending a friend’s wedding, it wasn’t until recently that I got to experience what it was like being a bridesmaid first-hand. Some may not be enthusiastic at the thought of filling up their social calendar with countless events and fittings, but I couldn’t wait! The months leading up to the wedding flew by, and while we prepared everything for the bachelorette party and the shower, the events quickly passed, leaving behind fun memories and photographs. Before I knew it the wedding was right around the corner!

The rehearsal dinner was held the weekend before the wedding, and the bride-to-be gave each of her bridesmaids jewelry to wear for the big day. She chose to accessorize the black strapless bridesmaid dresses with statement earrings and a necklace.

Unfortunately, Hurricane Sandy managed to wreak havoc on the east coast, less than a week before the wedding day. The storm had devastating effects, but the wedding served as a silver lining. While at first we didn’t know if the big day would be rescheduled, we were so excited that everything came together.

I decided to wear my hair in a loose braid swept to one side that gave way to cascading curls. A smokey eye completed my bridesmaid beauty look. After hair and makeup was done, we gathered to watch our friend emerge in her wedding dress — she looked gorgeous! It was such a sweet, emotional moment, seeing her in her wedding dress for the first time. The embellished gown had cap-sleeves and an open back detailing, and it fit her figure perfectly.

Style T3342

Since the bride’s theme was black and white, we carried pretty black and white bouquets. I loved the theme — I thought it was perfect for the crisp fall day. After the church ceremony, we went to take pictures before the reception. Once we got to the hall, it was time to have fun! We feasted on delicious food and danced all night.

While weddings are always joyous, fun occasions it felt totally different to be involved in my friend’s wedding as a bridesmaid. It made the day even more meaningful and it was such an honor to be chosen to partake in their special day.

Fashion Week: Runway to Reality

by Dan Rentillo

Fashion week sparks style inspiration for women everywhere. From alternate necklines, new hemlines and color hue updates, women can easily incorporate runway looks to their everyday wear and wedding day aisle debut! Here are some of my favorite bridal gown spotlight trends this season.

High Low Hemlines: Brides can get the best of both worlds displaying a long, traditional ball gown in the back and short stunner in the front.

Style SPK470

Champagne Hues: Warm color hues are in for fall allowing brides to make a statement—stepping away from the traditional white.

Style CWG468

Skirt Details: The runway was filled with dramatic inspirations and now brides can opt for these looks with voluminous ball gowns made of tiered layers of tulle.

Style WG3416

New Necklines: Strapless takes a back seat to sleeves this season showcasing the chic coverage trend.
