Melissa Sweet Lacquered Lace: A Dream Marriage Proposal
By Sarah Pease
When I first looked at this gorgeous gown, images of Carrie Bradshaw gallivanting around Paris and Kirsten Dunst as Marie Antoinette snacking on pastel-colored macarons and posh pastries popped into my head. This ball gown’s elegant silhouette and intricate lace appliqué detailing epitomizes the timeless and chic French style and inspired this Parisian getaway proposal.
Your future fiancée will believe the two of you are jetting off to Paris on a romantic vacation, but what she won’t know is that her trip to the city of love will be even more memorable than she could have ever imagined. Once you arrive, spend an entire day devoted to surprising the love of your life. The two of you will be preparing to leave for a day of sightseeing when you receive a delivery to your luxurious hotel room at the opulent Hotel de Crillon. A beautiful, vintage box topped with a fresh flower from a local market arrives for your future fiancée and inside is a classic porcelain coffee cup reminiscent of the cups used at Parisian cafés. It’s accompanied by a note with an address calligraphed on it.
Noting that it must be a sign, you will suggest going to the address. Once you make it to your mysterious location, the quintessential Parisian café Angelina, the two of you will relax with a rich cup of coffee, snack on decadent pastries and enjoy the beauty of Paris. After your coffee break it will be time to head to one of the most famous shopping streets, rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. As you stroll past iconic designer shops, suggest going into a classic French store like Hermes or Chanel. As your future fiancée is browsing around the store, tell her to pick something that she absolutely loves as a gift to remember Paris. While you are purchasing the item, someone from the store will give her what she thinks is a complimentary gift, but it’s actually a pre-planned gift from you. Inside will be a single lock with a heart and your initials engraved on it and a page from a vintage book describing the lovers’ bridge. This clue will lead the two of you to Pont des Arts, a well-known bridge that couples put love locks on.
Following this touching gesture, you will head underneath the bridge and board a private bateau boat. Enjoy a bottle of Dom Perignon champagne and macarons from Ladurée that you arranged to be on the boat as you float down the Seine River and pass an array of breathtaking sights. After your private ride, suggest visiting one of Paris’s amazing museums, Musée Rodin, which has a fabulous outdoor garden. What she won’t know is that you have rented out the museum just for the two of you and it will serve as the backdrop for your proposal. You will arrive and wander through the museum until you find one last beautifully wrapped box with her name on it. She will open it to find another lock, but this one will say, “Will you marry me?”
After she says yes and you have finished touring the museum, a classic French car with a chauffeur and a new, custom-monogrammed Louis Vuitton suitcase for her filled with your belongings will be waiting outside to take you to the French countryside for a romantic evening spent at the immaculate Château Chambord in the gorgeous Loire Valley.
