Galina Gown Meets Old Hollywood: A Dream Marriage Proposal

By Sarah Pease

After each awards show in Hollywood there is no shortage of magazines and websites splashed with photos of starlets donning gorgeous gowns, and season after season some of the best dressed women are those that channeled Old Hollywood glamour. The figure-hugging shape and sweetheart neckline of this demure yet sultry Galina Signature wedding gown served as the inspiration for a marriage proposal fit for a 1940’s screen siren or a modern starlet.

Your future-fiancée will think she is having a girl’s day spent shopping and going to the spa with her best friend, but the day has actually been planned down to the last detail to be the day of her dreams.  Everything begins as your sweetheart and friend set off for one of the chicest shopping streets in Hollywood, Rodeo Drive.  As they meander and peer into the ornately decorated window displays, her friend will suggest venturing into one of the well-known boutiques where they’ll try on some of the to-die-for dresses and shoes, but what your future-fiancée does not know is that you secretly contacted the store prior to her visit and arranged for her favorite pieces to be delivered to the spa.  After visiting some of Hollywood’s most famous boutiques, the women will head to the spa for an afternoon of starlet-worthy pampering.  As their spa trip comes to an end, she’ll be surprised when an exquisitely-wrapped garment bag from the store she visited earlier greets her at the spa. A classic car will whisk her to one of Hollywood’s most iconic spots, the Beverly Hills Hotel, where she’s shown to a dream suite and says goodbye to her friend and hello to her beauty team.  They’ll create the perfect hair & makeup look and as she changes into her glamorous, red-carpet ready outfit, she is transformed into a vintage screen siren. An impeccably dressed butler will show her to the hotel’s terrace bar that overlooks the pool, where a “red carpet” rose petal path will lead you to an intimate table-for-two hidden amongst the palm trees.  You’ll be waiting for her at the end of the red carpet with an envelope with her name on it. The outside reads “The Academy Award for Best Leading Lady” and on the inside is her name.  You drop to one knee and share that you would truly be the winner, for the rest of your lives, if she says yes!

Like the classic and glamorous Galina Signature gown, this marriage proposal idea is reminiscent of the Golden Age of Hollywood and will be remembered forever.

Melissa Sweet Valentine’s Day: A Dream Marriage Proposal

By Sarah Pease

Style MS251002

It’s Valentine’s Day!  In honor of a day dedicated to love and happiness, I’ve designed a proposal for this incredible Melissa Sweet gown inspired by everything sweet.

Start by securing the use of a picture-perfect bakery for your backdrop…something to evoke the feelings of white picket fences, pastel colors and gingerbread-style houses.  Arrange a special “decoy” plan on Valentine’s Day – perhaps on your way to dinner reservations, you suggest stopping at her favorite bakery for a treat.  As you approach the bakery, something looks a bit different.  Instead of the typical outdoor fluorescent lighting the entire bakery is illuminated with candles.  You step through the doorway, barely hearing the jingle of the door chime in the background because as you make your way inside the sounds of a European-style accordion float through the air, just like the music found on a French street corner in the movie Amelie or Chocolat.

Your noses are tickled with the smell of fresh-baked cookies and as you stroll around the shop, you realize that each of the display cases are filled to the brim with her favorite sweets and treats.  Delicate heart-shaped sugar cookies decorated to look like the white lace in the Melissa Sweet gown alongside hand-made sugar flower roses in various shades of creams and ivories, and finally a delicately ruffled cake perfectly presented in the middle of a tiny bistro table in the center of the room.  As you approach the cake, it’s flanked by life size white trellises covered from top to toe with hanging vines and soft ivory blooms.  Next to the cake is a sterling silver cake cutting set engraved with the words “Will You Marry Me?”

Just like the Melissa Sweet gown, this marriage proposal idea is the perfect concept for someone who appreciates the sweetness of life and love and forever wants to remember their Valentine’s Day as the day they were engaged!

Trendy Thursday! How to Propose on Super Bowl Sunday WITHOUT Missing the Game

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

Good Afternoon DB Readers! Happy Trendy Thursday! As the most anticipated sporting event of the year is right around the corner, family and friends will be gathering to watch the Super Bowl! You wouldn’t think so, but the Super Bowl is a great time to propose to the special woman in your life… and you don’t have to miss the game either!!  Here are HuffingtonPosts’ top 5 ways to propose before, during, or after the Super Bowl!

Proposing at the Super Bowl

If you’re lucky enough to have scored tickets to the actual game, then it’s safe to say that your partner will not be suspecting you to propose here because it’s the game of all games. The attention will be on everything on the field and not on your day-of proposal jitters.

During halftime, tell her that you want to grab some nachos or hot dogs. Instead, take her to an area where your friends are waiting. They hold up a big sign that says “It doesn’t matter to me who wins this game, I have won the greatest prize there is. Will you Marry Me?” You propose.

Proposing Before the Super Bowl

Most likely, you are not going to the game, so if you want to propose on Super Bowl Sunday then you might want to consider a morning proposal so you don’t miss the game. Wake her up with an amazing breakfast that you cooked for her yourself. Tell her you want to go for a nice morning walk so that you can spend some quality time with her before the game. As you go for your walk, people start handing your girlfriend her favorite flower. When you get to a pretty location, an a cappella group starts to serenade her with your song and you propose. See an a cappella proposal here.

If you propose before the game then you can use any kind of Super Bowl party as a way to announce your engagement and celebrate with friends.

Proposing At a Super Bowl Party

I don’t really recommend proposing at a Super Bowl party but if you must, keep in mind it can be a little trickier because everyone’s attention will be on the game. The best way to go about this is to get help from friends during a commercial break right after the half-time show. Sure you might miss a sexy M&M commercial but it is worth it for this.

Huddle your friends together in a group. You and your amazing guitar player friend huddle in the middle and once your girlfriend’s attention is focused on the group, you and your friend emerge. He is playing romantic music and you are reciting a poem or song you wrote. You propose.

Proposing After the Super Bowl

If you’re looking for a quiet and intimate proposal, then after the Super Bowl will be your best time. If this is your plan, limit your beer intake during the party because proposing while drunk is tacky. Once the Super Bowl parties are over, restaurants and other proposal venues will be empty so you will have your choice of location.

To propose after the game, have a limo waiting outside of the location where you watched the Super Bowl. The limo takes you to a restaurant where you enjoy a lovely dinner and then you are escorted into a private room. She is shocked when she opens the door and finds the room lit with hundreds of candles and decorated with flowers. You propose.

Trendy Tuesday! Flash Mob Proposals Are ALL The Rage!

Tuesday, September 11th, 2012

Can you imagine walking your dog in the park, and all of the sudden 50 people break out into a choreographed song by Bruno Mars?! Well, Heatherann Hughes was beyond shocked when her soulmate of 8 years  jumped into the crowd and starting wooing her and singing “Marry Me”!  The couple was supposed to be celebrating her cousin’s five year wedding anniversary, but it was perfect timing so the whole family could be involved in the proposal!
