Celebrity Inspired Cocktail Dresses For NYE

by Katrina Mitzeliotis

New Year’s Eve is the perfect night to get all dressed up. Regardless of where you’re headed, it always feels like everyone opts for a higher heel, a shorter hemline and a little more sparkle for the fun occasion. If you’re still searching for the perfect party dress, I suggest drawing inspiration from some of your favorite stars. From lots of sequins to ombre and lace, there are so many different trends to embrace. While during the holiday season you have to be conscious about dressing appropriate in front of your family and colleagues, NYE is all about standing out and letting your personal sense of style shine through, so have some fun and don’t be afraid to try a new red carpet trend!

Sequins

For me New Years Eve is all about sparkle — and you can never shine too bright! While the trend is a quintessential holiday staple, it’s also been popular on the red carpet, with everyone from Celine Dion to Katy Perry showing off the trend. If you are weary of trying out the look, I recommend sticking to a classic silhouette in a neutral color. Remember to keep the accessories to a minimum so the focus stays on the frock.

Lace

From Reese Witherspoon to Kristen Stewart, we’re seeing the feminine trend on a slew of stars of all ages. Personally, I really like the look because you will definitely find an opportunity to rewear a lace dress. From long-sleeved dresses to fit-and-flare silhouettes, the lace options are endless. For NYE, I suggest going all out in either a strapless or one-shoulder dress.

Cutouts

So many stylish A-listers have embraced showing skin on the red carpet. While it could be considered a tricky trend, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a tasteful way to show off — and there’s no better time to try it out than on New Year’s Eve! Take a cue from stars like Emily Blunt, Isla Fisher and Anne Hathaway and try out the look in a sexy yet chic way. I love the way the neckline on this dress allows you to show off the trendy look while the classic, ruched silhouette keeps it classy. If you opt for side cutouts, a fit-and-flare silhouette is best to balance out the sexy vibe.

Ombre

NYE is all about standing out, and if you want to experiment with a new look, I recommend wearing an ombre cocktail dress. On the red carpet we’ve seen stars like Ashley Greene and Christina Aguilera show off the style. Not only was this blue hue so hot for fall, but it looks so glamorous.

Regardless of what you decide to wear on New Year’s Eve, be sure to find a dress that you feel comfortable in — that way your confidence will shine right through!

Dress with Style Head to Toe for Upcoming Holiday Festivities

by Katrina Mitzeliotis

We’re in the midst of the holiday season, which means our social calendars are jam packed with get-togethers, dinners and parties. While in reality it would be great to have a couple of hours to get ready, more often than not we find ourselves rushing right out of our office door to a dinner party — but just because you’re coming from your desk doesn’t mean you can’t look chic!

Regardless of the dress code at your office, there’s three universal tips that can instantly transform your look: a red lip, statement jewelry and a dressy pair of pumps. In less than five minutes, you can easily go from day to night. If you have a couple of minutes to spare, you can also pull your hair in a top knot and put on a little more eye makeup for a dramatic, nighttime look. Depending on your outfit, a statement cuff, necklace or earrings are the way to go.

If you, (like me), often carry a roomy purse to work it might be best to leave your bulky bag behind and carry a chic clutch instead. The box clutch is so in style, and it adds a dressy look to any get-up.

It’s remarkable how quickly you can transform your look with just a few key accessories and makeup — but that’s not all! Going from desk to dinner during the holiday season also calls for the perfect dress. For the office holiday party, I would stay away from a plunging neckline or a super form-fitting frock. However, just because you want to look appropriate in front of the boss doesn’t mean you can’t let your personal sense of style shine through in something trendy. You can easily throw a blazer over a sleeveless dress for the office. Keep your clutch and jewelry in your bag and simply take off the blazer, slip on your statement jewelry and you’re ready to go! I think this dress is the perfect option for a soiree with your co-workers. It’s trendy and dressy while still looking totally appropriate.

It’s great to invest in a classic dress. Not only can you re-wear it throughout the holiday season, but once the spring rolls around it will still come in handy for cocktail parties and weddings. Again, throwing a jacket over the dress and wearing a modest heel is enough to dress it down when you’re at work — but it’s also so easy to transform for party-time.

When it comes to socializing during the holiday season, you honestly can’t go wrong with a little black dress — especially because you can easily dress it up or down.

The holiday season is a busy time, but there’s no need to stress when it’s time to get dressed! Let your individual sense of style shine through in an appropriate yet chic get-up and you’re sure to impress your colleagues with your fantastic flair for fashion.

Katrina’s in a Bridal Party!

by Katrina Mitzeliotis

While it feels like every few months I’m attending a friend’s wedding, it wasn’t until recently that I got to experience what it was like being a bridesmaid first-hand. Some may not be enthusiastic at the thought of filling up their social calendar with countless events and fittings, but I couldn’t wait! The months leading up to the wedding flew by, and while we prepared everything for the bachelorette party and the shower, the events quickly passed, leaving behind fun memories and photographs. Before I knew it the wedding was right around the corner!

The rehearsal dinner was held the weekend before the wedding, and the bride-to-be gave each of her bridesmaids jewelry to wear for the big day. She chose to accessorize the black strapless bridesmaid dresses with statement earrings and a necklace.

Unfortunately, Hurricane Sandy managed to wreak havoc on the east coast, less than a week before the wedding day. The storm had devastating effects, but the wedding served as a silver lining. While at first we didn’t know if the big day would be rescheduled, we were so excited that everything came together.

I decided to wear my hair in a loose braid swept to one side that gave way to cascading curls. A smokey eye completed my bridesmaid beauty look. After hair and makeup was done, we gathered to watch our friend emerge in her wedding dress — she looked gorgeous! It was such a sweet, emotional moment, seeing her in her wedding dress for the first time. The embellished gown had cap-sleeves and an open back detailing, and it fit her figure perfectly.

Style T3342

Since the bride’s theme was black and white, we carried pretty black and white bouquets. I loved the theme — I thought it was perfect for the crisp fall day. After the church ceremony, we went to take pictures before the reception. Once we got to the hall, it was time to have fun! We feasted on delicious food and danced all night.

While weddings are always joyous, fun occasions it felt totally different to be involved in my friend’s wedding as a bridesmaid. It made the day even more meaningful and it was such an honor to be chosen to partake in their special day.

Favorite Fall Trends

by Katrina Mitzeliotis

A new season is a great time to experiment with new trends. While I am just as guilty as anyone when it comes to working with silhouettes, shades and styles I feel most comfortable in, this season I decided to experiment with a few different looks — and I loved the way it worked out, and hopefully you will too!

Red

I wouldn’t usually see a red dress and feel inclined to try it on, but considering it’s everywhere, (and on everyone from Kate Hudson to Taylor Swift!), it was now or never for me! The color is so hot this season — and it’s a vibrant way to stand out! If an all-over red dress is a bit much, try tucking a red blouse into a leather or faux leather skirt if you want to give the look a little edge.

Style A12897

Statement Pieces

While I love piling on the jewelry, I wasn’t always a big fan of the statement necklace — until I finally tried it! The key is finding a necklace that hits you at the right place — and depending on your outfit that could vary. While necklaces look gorgeous with a cocktail dress, it’s also a great way to dress up basic jeans. I also like wearing a button-up all buttoned and sporting the necklace under the collar under the shirt.

Style 225941

Slits

This is another formal trend I’ve always loved on the red carpet — but never thought I could pull off! At 5’2, I’m not working with much height — and that’s exactly why I usually wouldn’t want to wear a gown. While this summer I definitely got more comfortable with the idea, (thanks to the maxi dress trend), I didn’t muster up the courage to try a gown with a slit until this season. I like the way the slit lets you show a little skin — it’s a nice way to break up the dress so you don’t feel like you’re swimming in fabric.

Style F44447

Velvet

The fabric came back in a big way this season — and there’s so many ways to wear it! While this is definitely a trend I was most hesitant to try, I started with my accessories — and you can do the same with this sash! Wearing a velvet belt with your basic little black dress can add an instant dressed up, trendy factor to your ensemble.

London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week

After New York Fashion Week wrapped up I had the chance to skip across the pond to take part in the Burberry Prorosum show! New York was still very warm at the time but London was much cooler – and trying to decide what to bring along wasn’t easy.

I’ve gotten so good at carrying on a bag; however this time I had to check my luggage – and I have to admit I definitely over packed. I decided on a long-sleeved black dress with embellished sleeves and a pair of tights for the show. You really can’t go wrong with a little black dress, and a red bag added a pop of coor without seeming too trendy. I’ve easily taken my dress from desk to dinner, and that’s exactly what you can do with this lace peplum number.

Style LR758

While I’ve had the opportunity to attend many shows in New York, the show was an experience like no other. Even the cloudy day couldn’t take away from the gorgeous backdrop at Kensington Gardens. Guests walked along a plush white carpet before entering a dark venue. It wasn’t long before the structure was flooded with natural light, as black tarp covering the venue dropped down to reveal the gorgeous glass structure — it was like sitting in a greenhouse.

The loud music and light gave way to the models, who stormed the catwalk in metallic dresses and structured separates, all while A-listers like Dita Von Teese, Alice Eve, One Direction’s Harry Styles, Olivia Palermo, Andy Murray and more took in the show from the front row. If you want to try the metallic trend you don’t have to wait for next season—check out this dress.

Style AMGND73D

As the show came to an end, the tarp came back up, once again enclosing the structure in darkness. After rushing out of my seat, I found myself right next to Harry Styles and managed to squeeze in a quick interview, (all while the former-boy band loving teenager inside of me swooned).

After the show rapped up, I headed back to the flat I was staying at to change before joining the Burberry team for celebratory cocktails at Soho House.

Fashion Week Trends

by Katrina Mitzeliotis

Even though we’re gearing up for fall, I already have spring on my mind. After all, I did just see amazing spring 2013 collections come down the runway during New York Fashion Week – and a new season means new trends! Stay on the forefront of fashion and check out the hottest formal trends for spring 2013 that you can wear right now.

Prints

From soft watercolor patterns to bold florals, the trend looks so chic in formal wear — and it was everywhere on the runway at the Naeem Khan, Monique Lhuillier and Reem Acra shows. This printed gown is a nice way to work the trend.

Style 61870640

Slits

It looks like the slit dress is here to stay, at least for another season – and I’m sure Angelina Jolie and her infamous right leg would be thrilled to hear the news. From high slits to much more demure options, I spotted this on the runway at Jenny Packham, DVF and DKNY, to name a few! If you want to rock this look, I recommend the gown below.

Style F44447

Lace

The feminine lace look is timeless and was seen at the Tadashi Shoji, Victoria Beckham, Chris Benz and BCBG shows. I love the soft hint of lace detailing on this dress – it’s such a fresh way to update the LBD!

Style XS3393

Metallics

While the sparkling looks ruled the spring runways, the trend is always a great go-to for the holiday season! I loved the show-stopping metallics at Lela Rose and Ralph Lauren– you can easily work the look right now with this dress. A ruched frock is so flattering on a variety of figures, and the classic silhouette never goes out of style.
