Fashion & Beauty Tips for Teens

by Cassandra Morris

Hey teens! Here are more of my favorite fashion and beauty tips to try before your next dance—let me know what you think!

Use a Wide-Toothed Comb. After you get out of the shower, what do you use to brush out your hair? If it’s anything other than a wide-toothed comb, you may be causing unnecessary damage to your locks. Wide-toothed combs are gentler, prevent strands from snapping and breaking, and still remove all of your tangles.

If You Don’t Love It, Don’t Buy It. We’ve all been guilty of over-shopping. While sometimes you end up with a killer dress that you wear over and over… other times, a jacket will linger in your closet unworn for months. To save money and closet space, carefully consider every piece before you buy it. Your wallet and wardrobe will benefit from extremely selective buying.

Wash With Sulfate-Free Shampoo. Sulfates are in the majority of shampoos on the market—they’re what cause shampoo to lather. But, they’re not totally necessary. I have found sulfate-free shampoos to be less drying and kinder to my hair. Check the ingredients to see if anything with the word “sulfate” is listed.

Freeze On Your Makeup. After your makeup is applied, open your freezer and stick your face in it for about ten seconds. The cold air will “freeze” your makeup and make it stay on longer. This is especially helpful during the summer months, when your makeup can literally melt off- ick!

Be Yourself And Take Fashion Risks. Your teen years are the time to experiment, fashion and makeup-wise. Now is the time to get away with neon eyeliner, funky party dresses and wild hair fascinators. If you feel like wearing something completely different than everyone else in school, just go for it. Experiment, find your unique style and be yourself without worrying what the other girls are wearing.

Heavenly Headpieces:
How to choose your wedding veil from mantilla to modern styles
by Carmen Ordonez

After your wedding dress, the next most important decision is finding the perfect veil to compliment it. These days, the choices in veils are limitless, from traditional styles such as a Mantilla to a modern Russian Tulle Blusher style. Here are some quick tips when picking a veil for your big day.

Make Sure the Veil Compliments Your Dress. As a rule-of-thumb, if your dress is heavily embellished, look for a less elaborate veil. However, if your dress is simple, you can go all out with veil decorations such as pearls, rhinestones and embroidery. The embellishments on your veil don’t have to match exactly the ones on your dress, just make sure it stays in the same family.

Traditional vs. Modern. Deciding to go for a traditional or modern headpiece really depends on your style and what look you’re going for. If you’re going for a romantic, old-world look, I personally love mantillas ala Kate Middleton.

This one from David’s Bridal is one of my favorites.

For a modern, retro look, go for a blusher style like this one.

Long vs. Short. Deciding to go with a long or short veil is another important thing to consider. Keep in mind where your wedding will be taking place. If you’re having a beach wedding, a floor-length veil probably won’t be the best option. If you’re having a church wedding, a Cathedral-length veil (which usually measures 120 inches) is a great option to make a statement.
This Cathedral-length veil is simply stunning.

What Hairstyle Will You Wear? Don’t forget to take your veil to your hair trial appointments to make sure it works well! Knowing what hairstyle you will wear will also be helpful in picking out bridal hair accessories for the reception.

This rhinestone headband adds the perfect amount of sparkle. Plus, it will keep your hair out of your face as you dance the night away at your reception.
