Fashion Week: Runway to Reality

Fashion week sparks style inspiration for women everywhere. From alternate necklines, new hemlines and color hue updates, women can easily incorporate runway looks to their everyday wear and wedding day aisle debut! Here are some of my favorite bridal gown spotlight trends this season.
High Low Hemlines: Brides can get the best of both worlds displaying a long, traditional ball gown in the back and short stunner in the front.
Champagne Hues: Warm color hues are in for fall allowing brides to make a statement—stepping away from the traditional white.
Skirt Details: The runway was filled with dramatic inspirations and now brides can opt for these looks with voluminous ball gowns made of tiered layers of tulle.
New Necklines: Strapless takes a back seat to sleeves this season showcasing the chic coverage trend.

So many stars are getting ready to tie the knot—and I can’t wait to see what they’ll wear when they walk down the aisle! Choosing what you’ll wear when you say ‘I Do’ definitely isn’t easy, regardless of whether or not you’re a major A-lister. It’s important to find a wedding dress that represents your style aesthetic, and makes you feel confident. Check out the styles I think we’ll see on some of the stars!
Angelina Jolie
It seems like her right leg is almost as famous on the red carpet as she is—and there’s no denying the fact that the star loves seriously sexy looks. While I definitely think her wedding dress will be more romantic than some of her recent red carpet get-ups, she marches to the beat of her own drum, so I would be shocked to see the star in a traditional, voluminous gown. Instead, I think we’ll see her in something romantic and timeless that allows her to flaunt her svelte frame—and that’s exactly what you can do in the dress below.
Drew Barrymore
Drew’s style is very eclectic, but since she is such a true romantic at heart I think we could expect to see her in an ethereal gown that captures the spirit of the day. There’s rumors that the star will be wearing Chanel when she walks down the aisle—and that her special day could be as soon as June 2! I’m really loving this strapless gown, because it’s modern, romantic and chic at the same time, just like Drew.
Jessica Biel
Jessica Biel loves to take chances on the red carpet, but for her wedding day I think she’ll opt for something traditional and chic, that highlights her fantastic, athletic figure. She and her fiancé, Justin Timberlake, are definitely in the midst of planning—and I predict we might see them tie the knot as soon as this summer!
Fashion Week Celebrates Curves

This year’s New Jersey Full Figure Fashion Week was held in Atlantic City, NJ from March 29-April 1, 2012 (njfffw.com). My friend and colleague of 15 years, Susan Moses, served as the official stylist, while Sheneen Zee and I worked with her to produce the runway shows for the event.
The weekend celebrated curvy women, featuring dozens of plus size designers as well as high power panel discussions with Hollywood’s plus size celebrities, including Hairspray’s Nikki Blonsky, MTV’s Chelsea Settles and America’s Next Top Model, Toccara Jones. The runway shows proved to be the highlight of the weekend showcasing over 38 plus size models and 125 looks, from size 12-22 in this spring’s hottest trends including swimwear, red carpet cocktail/evening and of course, bridal.
The bridal runway show opened and closed with gowns from David’s Bridal. As the first model went out in a gorgeous gown by Galina Signature, the crowd gasped, mesmerized by the dramatic design details, alluring fit & flare silhouette and unforgettable floral appliques. Later, Chasity closed the show in an Oleg Cassini gown, providing the fabulous finale that this breathtaking show truly deserved.
All the brides were accessorized simply with a single, oversized fantasy cocktail ring and wore effortlessly sexy hair & makeup, to focus the attention on the elegant details of every gown. Intricate beading, three-dimensional flowers, sweetheart necklines and cinched waistlines were outdone only by the wispy tulle and dramatic trains that floated down the catwalk with an ethereal beauty that inspired everyone in attendance.
The audience response was absolutely overwhelming. Most were impressed with the high-end quality of the gowns and excited to discover that their favorite designer wedding dresses from the show were from Galina Signature and Oleg Cassini and available in their size at David’s Bridal.
As a Style Council Member for David’s Bridal, I often feel like a messenger of hope and inspiration to brides everywhere. And at this very special fashion week, my mission was complete–to share with as many women as possible a message from David’s Bridal: You don’t have to sacrifice style on your big day because of your dress size. David’s celebrates women of all sizes!

With the New Year comes new designs and 2012 will be filled with a number of brand new trends, as well as modern updates to classic silhouettes. From skirt drama to rich three- dimensional designs and the growing trend of color, brides-to-be will have endless options to walk down the aisle in style.
Colors & Prints: Floral gowns or styles with touches of color are perfect for brides looking to add an extra festive touch to their spring or summer wedding. 
Distinctive Details: This year, skirt drama continues to be a huge focus, giving the bride a high-fashion look while sweet three-dimensional florals give a romantic touch to any gown.
Modern Coverage: Feminine gowns with a bit of coverage like an illusion lace neckline, cap sleeve or one-shoulder silhouette add modernity to timeless styles.
Lovely Lace: While the Royal Wedding may be in the past, the bridal trends are here to stay—lace details remain a prominent trend this year.
