Look Leaner Instantly: Fall Fashion Tricks

by Nicole Brewer

The secret to looking leaner instantly is choosing the right style for your body type. This fall, it’s all about sophisticated silhouettes, luxurious fabrics and rich colors that will get you noticed. Here are my favorite tips and trends to make the season’s hottest fashion work for you.

Short Sweaters & Jackets
Cropped jackets and sweaters are hot for fall and can make you look leaner. They hit just at the waist, defining the midsection by drawing the eye to the narrow part of your middle–creating a waist-cinching effect to effortlessly drop a dress size instantly.

Style DB5200

The Monochromatic Look
It’s all about color, especially with red, cobalt and black taking center stage this season. This long column dress is all one color, elongating the body for a slimmer you.

Style F14336

The Cinch
Textured or embellished, wide or skinny, waist cinching wraps and belts work every
time.

Style G21407

Strategic Color Blocking
The color blocking trend continues into fall with rich jewel tones and classic color combos. This high waisted gown gives the illusion of a smaller waistline while the darker skirt helps to make legs look longer and leaner.

Style Tip: Shop for Smart Shapewear

Controlling your curves is simple: find the right shapewear. Choose a comfortable, high-waisted panty with lycra or spandex to smooth out your torso, regardless of your size. The newest shapewear designs guarantee that your clothes will fit better, without clinging.

Ageless Style: How to Pick Age-Appropriate Bridesmaid Dresses
by Marissa Rubinetti

It’s officially wedding season. You’ve chosen your bridal party. Now, let the bridesmaid dress shopping begin! Whether your bridesmaids are 15 or 45, there are ways to have every one of your favorite ladies coordinate while looking and feeling their best on your big day!

The Teens
Have a bridesmaid that is just getting over the junior bridesmaid phase? Why not dress her in a short V-neck stunner that shows off some leg, but keeps her top slightly covered with sleeves.

Twenty-Somethings
Your best girlfriends will look glamorous in a short stretch-satin style. This dress has a modern crumb catcher bodice that is both fashion-forward and adds dimension.

Thirty to Forty-Somethings
For those in search of a more conservative silhouette, this long bridesmaid dress has an empire waist that creates an elongated figure. The ruched satin overlay adds the perfect mix of elegance and style.

Congratulations and happy shopping!

Feminine Detailing & Fanciful Fabrics: What’s New for Brides and Bridal Parties

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

Dan Rentillo, David’s Bridal Design Director Season to season, brides seek out the latest trends for themselves and their bridal party with the hopes of making their day extra perfect and uber stylish. Each season our design team at David’s Bridal unveils styles that can be tailored to every bride’s unique vision. Our luxurious Spring 2011 collection is no exception, truly complementing both the bride and her bridal party’s personal styles, body types and budgets.

Here are a few of my current favorite spring looks based on two of the must-have trends of the season – feminine detailing and fanciful fabrics:

The Blossoming Bride: This season, bridal silhouettes range from sleek, sexy flowing styles to dramatic, jaw dropping voluminous ball gowns. A major trend is gorgeous details including three-dimensional flowers, modern laces and ruffles. This Galina Signature strapless taffeta ball gown is a glamorous example of what’s on trend. With a form-fitting bodice and dropped waist, the gown also features cascading floral appliqués, shaping the breathtaking skirt. Brides can personalize her look with dramatic crystal jewelry, long white gloves and/or a floral headpiece.

Fashion-Forward Bridesmaids: This spring, brides and her bridesmaids will love the fashion-forward, feminine wear-again bridal party styles. Playful, girly prints and bright colors are key and this David’s Bridal strapless charmeuse dress is a perfect example of this trend. The slim skirt and ruched waist creates a silhouette that is both flattering and versatile for the entire bridal party. Brides can even add some flair to their party by mixing this print with solid dresses in the same color – Horizon.

• Delicate Flower Girls: New Flower girl styles featuring ruffled skirts and three-dimensional flowers mirror the feminine bridal and bridesmaid designed dresses. This David’s Bridal angelic full-length ball gown includes a charming floral detail on the shoulder. Plus, the pop of color in the sash (a key trend for flower girls) gives the bride an easy way to seamlessly incorporate the flower girl with the rest of the bridal party.

Modern Mother of the Bride or Groom: It’s all in the details for Mothers of the Bride and Groom with modern designs reigning supreme. Figure-flattering ruching, sleek off-the shoulder necklines and multi-tiered skirts, finished with shimmer and shine in metallic soft chiffons and taffetas, truly let mom sparkle on this special day. This stunning off-the-shoulder style showcases what’s on trend at the moment. Finished with a center broach, the stretch taffeta fabric is comfortable, flattering and chic. Happy Shopping to you and your bridal party!

Always a Bridesmaid …

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

If this title caught your attention, it is likely that you will soon be taking part in the wedding of your special friend or relative. Always keep in mind that it is an important role, and one that is a great honor. How many times in your life will you get to represent the interests of someone going through such a big change in their life? You are standing up at the altar as you witness a marriage! You want to be wearing the most beautiful dress imaginable, and you want to look stunning.

Traditionally, the bride makes the choice for bridesmaid dress. If you are very lucky, she may give you a few choices that she has already narrowed down, and it will be up to you and the other bridesmaids to make your selection from those options.  What you can do, however, to guarantee that she chooses from among the best dresses available is steer her in the right direction in the first place!  Have her go to David’s Bridal to choose the bridesmaid dresses as she shops for her own gown; they have a huge selection of styles and colors and she can’t go wrong.

Chances are, she will listen to your advice if you are important enough to her to be in her bridal party. Remember that it’s important to select the bridesmaid attire early, so you can be sure to look your beautiful best up there next to her on that big day.

Vibrant Color Guaranteed to Match

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Imagine planning your wedding for months, having your dresses all chosen, ordered and paid for, shoes dyed, clutch bags matched to perfection, or so you thought. Your bridesmaids are scattered in five different states and you told them the color and where to order from. On your big day, you all come together and – to your horror – discover that each dress and every shoe has a slightly different hue!

For some gown and accessories manufacturers, their standard of quality can be described as “close enough”. Fabrics and colors can vary based on the factory where it was made or even from day to day on the same machine. For David’s Bridal, nothing short of a perfect match is acceptable. The new db bridal Color System allows your bridesmaids to buy anywhere from our 280+ locations and the color and fabric is guaranteed to match!

Consistently gorgeous is how we characterize our products. Beyond color, fabric is a critical element for choosing your gowns. Be sure to check out David’s new jersey fabric styles with a little bit of stretch that “wear anywhere” and resist wrinkling and fading. These styles are luxurious and practical at the same time, and your bridesmaids will be sure to wear these dresses again and again. For an even more glamorous style, consider dress styles in metallic brocade. Brocade has a unique texture and structure that forgives every figure and looks like you just stepped out of a fashion magazine.

Beautiful Bridesmaids … Beautiful Party!

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

When you ask that special friend of yours or that cousin you grew up with to be in your wedding, a huge grin is likely to break across their face and she will be incredibly happy.  This happiness will only last, however, if she is able to wear a beautiful dress!  There is nothing worse than being chosen to stand up as an attendant in a wedding and then being asked – or worse yet commanded – to wear an awful dress.  Sometimes, the dress is lovely, but the style or shape is quite simply unflattering to each individual attendant.

You can choose beautiful bridesmaids dresses in just about every color, style and shape you can dream up if you shop at David’s Bridal.  Instead of shopping for blue, pink, yellow, or green, you can choose from greens such as Olivine and Honeydew and Clover, or blues like Blue Velvet, Cornflower and Marine.  The names are as lovely as the dresses and describe the many different hues available.  Along with the color palette, you can choose from a wide variety of styles, cuts and textures so that every attendant is sure to love her dress!

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have your special girls feel extra-special in their dresses?  And even more wonderful if they could wear the gorgeous dress all over again for another occasion?  Let them know how much you care; let them wear a wonderful dress for this most wonderful affair.
