New Year Brings Celebrity Newlywed and Engagement Bliss

Nicole Brewer, Celebrity & Plus Size Fashion Expert Leave it to the celebrities to ‘ring’ in the New Year, literally!
Country singer Shania Twain and actress Valerie Bertinelli surprised us all with their New Year’s nuptials.

Shania Twain Says “I Do” in Black and White
 Wearing a crisp strapless white gown with a black waist cinching sash, the gorgeous Shania Twain started the New Year off with a clean slate and a new chance at love. Shania shines onstage in her bold accessories and her wedding day was no different. A dramatic full veil and big chandelier earrings helped put Shania’s signature style on her special day. With a beautiful sunset in Puerto Rico as their backdrop, the bride and groom were impeccably coordinated – Frederic Thiebaud complemented his new wife in a white suit and vest with a black shirt.

 Looking to recreate Shania’s stunning style in this on-trend color scheme? I love how you can easily add a black ribbon sash to this David’s Bridal strapless A-line gown.

Valerie Bertinelli Makes it a Happy Wedding Day!
 During their annual New Year’s Day party, Valerie Bertinelli and Tom Vitale surprised their guests by walking down the aisle! Looking years younger than her actual age, Valerie wore a soft blue gown with flutter sleeves, that not only showed off her svelte hourglass figure, but transitioned seamlessly from New Year’s Day party to an elegant celebration of love.

 If you’re looking for a non-traditional colored wedding dress, soft blues and silvers are gorgeous go-to’s. This pewter gown boasts a versatile, sophisicated silhouette and fabric, so you can even wear it again for future anniversary celebrations.

Aside from these great Hollywood weddings, more celebrities got engaged over the holidays, so we’ve got fabulous bridal fashion to look forward to.

Reese Witherspoon
 Actress Reese Witherspoon is engaged to CAA agent Jim Toth!
Considering their low-key relationship and family life, it’s possible that their wedding day may follow suit. Reese is known for her understated, yet always elegant sense of fashion. But is it possible that this bride’s aisle style will be low-key? Not likely! Considering her beautiful, four-carat Ashoka engagement ring, it’s safe to assume they will spare no expense on their big day. We can even expect Reese to choose a classic silhouette, but one complete with elegant details and pristine tailoring that will capture her youthful, vibrant energy and flatter her petite frame. Perhaps this glam, two-in-one gown will be calling her name?

Natalie Portman
 Natalie Portman has announced she is engaged and expecting her first child with fiance Benjamin Millepied! This exciting news for the talented young actress comes on the heels of award nominations for her latest movie role in Black Swan, where she met her ballet choreographer beau. Many people suspect she will marry Millepied before the birth of their baby, so we just might see an empire waist wedding gown in her future. Silk jersey grecian inspired silhouettes with asymmetrical details could also be great options for Natalie. But only time will tell exactly which direction this young, edgy fashionista will look for her bridal style. But make no mistake, as Natalie takes on her biggest roles yet -as wife and mommy – she has a lot to celebrate! So, how about two dresses?! I vote for this short stunner as a stylish second dress for her.

Hugh Hefner and Crystal Harris

 Eternal playboy Hugh Hefner announced his engagement to his 24 year old girlfriend, Crystal Harris! Crystal is a beautiful blonde bombshell, who would look good in almost anything, but my guess is she just might choose among the latest non-traditional wedding dresses. To style a wedding day fit for a playboy, I’m sure this playmate won’t disappoint. Perhaps a new modern mini with a hemline that shows off her great legs, like this head-turning style. Or, maybe a retro-inspired plunging neckline (Hello, Marilyn!). One thing’s for sure – we can count on a dress that reveals a lot of skin.
