BUDGET PLANNING BRIDAL RECEPTION & DECOR BRIDESMAIDS & COLOR
Get Inspired
Attend local events for ideas on everything from décor to music. At a recent art walk in our town we found a budding two person music group who we asked to play for our ceremony and cocktail hour. Since they are looking to expand their repertoire, we booked them for a great price and we know they will provide a unique and personal feel.
Kellyn (Kalamazoo)
Chalk it Up!
Instead of wasting paper for wedding programs and place cards, write the nuptial info on a chalkboard. You can use the chalkboard in your new home.
Leyka (Bethlehem)
Lasting Memories
For my daughter's guest book, we are renting a photo booth and having the guests take photos of themselves to put with their marital advice in our guest book. They will receive two copies of the photo, one for my daughter's book and one for themselves. This will allow them to look back at it years later and remember who said what on that special day.
Donna (Green Cover Springs)
Helpful Hubby
Remember it is your groom's day as well as yours and his input can be really insightful. I was stuck on color schemes and when I asked for his opinion, he told me that red represented festivity and celebration to him. Now we are doing aqua and red!
Katie (Louisville)
Meaningful Memoirs
Have wedding favors that are nice, yet meaningful. This way your guests will keep them and remember your wedding. I plan on creating some D.I.Y picture frames for the guest to place their pictures in from the photo booth we will have.

Wholesale Savings!
Wholesale! Wholesale! Wholesale! I got all of my wedding decorations from wholesalers and saved about $200 on glass cylinder vases alone. Plus I made all my candles and luminaries! Everything was personalized by us - so it looked exactly like we wanted and it represented who we are. Plus the vases will make great take home prizes for the games we are going to play!
Vicky (Hospers)
Kid-friendly Crafts
My fiancé actually suggested this, I can't take all the credit! We are letting my 6 year old daughter decorate the flower vases for the centerpieces (color coordinated for our day of course!) so our guests can take home something special.
Catherine (East Providence)
Picture Perfect
Set up your reception table just the way you've envisioned. Then take a picture! If you include the photo of how it's supposed to look with your decorations when passing them off to the set up crew before your big day, then you can ensure everything will look perfect and exactly how you want it!
Gabby (Tallahassee)
Functional Favors
As presents for your guests, buy wine glasses and dip the bottom of them in blackboard paint and write the guests name, also can be used to place guests at tables, it looks fantastic!
Michelle (Belmont)
Sweet Treat
Little personal touches make your wedding day memorable! Use your own talents to make your day unique. My fiancé is designing our invites and I am baking cookies for our favors.
Megan (Maywood)
Reuse décor!
If you are planning on lining the aisle of your ceremony with flowers, hang them along the chairs or on shepherd hooks using mason jars and transfer them to the reception area for rustic table centerpieces! This will help save you money on expensive table arrangements!
Mary (Pittsburgh)
DIY Decor
Utilize your creative side in any aspect of your big day. We are doing invitations, favors, and center pieces ourselves. Doing things yourself saves you so much money and you will end up loving every part of your wedding because you created it yourself!
Tawney (Newport)
Fake the Flowers
When planning for the flowers, we are going with silk flowers for the center pieces and bouquets. When the celebration is over, we are donating them to the local nursing home so they can be put in the rooms and never wilt!
Emily (Olean)
Cork Creativity
I am saving wine corks and wine bottles to decorate for bridesmaids' gifts and decorations. You can paint the wine bottles with gold crackle paint and cut the bottom out. Then place a tea light under the bottle for light. You can use the corks to make the initial of your groom's last name.
Brittany (Huntsville)
Get a Head Start
Decorate the day before! Your wedding day is busy enough without trying to add in more work. You can decorate with the bridal party before the rehearsal dinner and really get into the wedding spirit. Bring a bottle of your favorite wine and have a blast with your husband-to-be and wedding party! Of course, some things like flowers cannot be put up the day before. The more decorations you get up in advance, though, the easier your wedding day will be.
Rebecca (Chester Gap)
Go Big with Your Bouquet
Tip for wedding flowers: Focus on the bridal bouquet. Go as big and extravagant as you want with no concerns about cost, and then use carnations for the rest of the wedding. They are inexpensive, beautiful, and can be dyed pretty much any color to match your wedding!
Krista (Soldotna)
Dancing Shoes
You want your guests to join you out on the dance floor, so provide $1 flip flops in a decorative bin with a sign that states, "Put Your Dancing Shoes On"!
Ashley (Tempe)
Child's Play
Have a small space off to the side at your reception for the children to play. Rent a bouncy play house, or have a room with toys and hire a babysitter. That way, everyone can enjoy their time at your wedding!
Catherine (Anchorage)
From the Reception to Your Garden
Use small potted flowers as your centerpieces. When the wedding is over, you can take the pots home and plant a wedding garden!
